About the Breed
"A true Greyhound in miniature, the elegant Italian Greyhound is an alert, playful, and highly affectionate toy companion. IGs make decorative couch dogs, but at heart they are flash-and-dash coursing hounds with an instinct for pursuit. IGs are Greyhounds in miniature'¿more slender, but a Greyhound's equal in grace and elegance. Standing ideally 13 to 15 inches at the shoulder, they present the sleek, curving lines common to all coursing hounds. Distinguishing features are the long, fine-boned legs. IGs combine the attentiveness of lapdogs with the complexity of ancient, aristocratic hounds. Bred for centuries to be doting companions and jesters, these high-stepping charmers refuse to be ignored. 'On the whole, writes an IG expert, 'the breed would much rather be in your lap or bed than on the floor. They are, though, true sighthounds and will bolt after quick-moving prey at the drop of a cat. A short-coat, low-fat breed, IGs require extra care in cold weather."

Italian Greyhounds are smart, have great intuition, are extremely playful, get along with people of all sizes as well as other pets, love to snuggle, and be with you. The Italian Greyhound dog , also known as an IG or Iggy is a loving companion that is a member of the toy breed group but is aslo the smallest member of sight hounds. they will chase squirrels. The Italian Greyhound adores the outside when the weather is not severly cold but prefers to be inside with their companion. The Italian Greyhound loves to be at your side and are adaptable to all types of living arrangements, from the farm to an apartment. Italian Greyhounds have easily trained to a dog door, puppy pads and even a litter box. They have brief bouts of energy and then lounge for long periods. Italian Greyhounds are a short-haired dog which means no hair cut required; bath with a pedicure (easily done at home) and they are groomed. Italian Greyhounds are not considered to be "yippers or barkers" as they are usually quiet but will alert when appropriate. They are well behaved around company. With their long legs and sleek appearance they turn heads wherever they go!!! Typical weight is 8 to 14 pounds and they range from 12 to 16 inches in height, at the withers.
